Here is an excerpt from a letter we recently received from one of our clients:
Donald L. Shumway, President Crotched Mountain
The treehouse is a symbol of our future, our new way of living. It captures a new spirit of joy and accomplishment. It points us in a new direction of life-sharing and community engagement. People with disabilities belong in the mainstream of community life, yet to succeed we all must have the relationships we need. Independence must be based on positive inter-dependence. Treehouses are places for building relationships and communities. With our treehouse , we have begun a journey of making Crotched Mountain "into a commmunity of mutual support."
Those guys are just wonderful. They joined us, lived with us, ate with us, and accepted our all students, staff, friends, and neighbors as their own new community. Their open flexibility combined with a clear sense of purpose was just the right thing to connect us. We flooded them with volunteers, school kids, parents; they absorbed it all and led us up the ramps as each new section was built. And they are craftsmen. They have a standard of creative skill that is inspiring, which makes the tree house inspiring.
It is beautiful. When you stand back and look at its structure in the trees, or get very close and study its fine detail of handrails and doors, all of it is a wonder. It possesses magical beauty.
And it came in below budget! Wow!
